The purpose of the Book Notes is to assist in the study of the content of each book listed. This Study Guide outlines a process for making the best use of the Book Notes and for studying each text. Step 1: Preview the Book Notes to determine if you wish to read the book. If you decide not to read the book, you can always refer to the notes to refresh your memory as to the main ideas of the book. If you decide to read the book, proceed to step two. Step 2: Begin reading the book by leafing through it in order to get a feel for how it is structured. Reading the bold print headings and the diagram captions facilitates this process. If there are chapter summaries read them as well as any summaries at the end of the book. Upon completing steps one and two you should have obtained a basic understanding of what the book is about. This big picture view of the book's content facilitates understanding of how all the detailed parts fit into place. Step 3: Begin reading a specific chapter by reading the corresponding section of the Book Notes. As you read the text, add to the Book Notes information that you find of interest. You can also add examples of applications from you personal experience. This brings the text alive and reinforces the information you are studying. Step 4: Upon the completion of a reading session, review both the Book Notes and the notes you have added. At the beginning of the next reading session, review any notes from previously read sections. Not only will this enhance your memory, but it will also assist you in focussing on what you are about to read. Step 5: Between reading sessions apply what you have learned. Test the limits and contexts of the ideas gleaned from your reading. Where and when do they fit; where and when don't they fit? Enjoy.
